Visa-Free Countries & Safest Destinations | Tools to Exit America

The following tools are excellent for starting your research to move abroad from the United States.

They will help you find out what countries are visa-free for Americans, and how to identify the safest and most peaceful countries in the world.

Our family has lived abroad (in East Africa) for 3 years and some of these tools helped us, while others we found later in our new life beyond America.

If you want an all-in-one resource you should download our free travel e-book.

You can also watch the video tutorial below guiding you through the e-book.

Let’s begin.

Visa-Free Countries for Americans

As of August 2024, U.S. passport holders can travel visa-free to 149 countries and territories. You will mostly do so as a tourist starting out.

They include places like:

  • Albania
  • Greece
  • Malta
  • Norway
  • Panama
  • Aruba
  • Australia
  • The Bahamas
  • Ireland
  • Qatar
  • Canada
  • Cayman Islands
  • South Africa
  • Singapore
  • Malaysia
  • Costa Rica

Last I checked, as an American citizen, you can stay in the Bahamas for 200 days without a visa.

And by the way, you can do the same thing no matter what country you’re a citizen of. Just go on your country’s website, or go to VisaGuide.World.

Type in your country on the website and see which countries you can visit visa-free.

Whether you have an English passport, a Canadian passport, or a Tanzanian passport — whatever it is — you can do the same research.

Did you know that more than 10 countries issue e-visas to U.S. citizens? The Visa Guide lists all of them, too.

Some countries issue visas on arrival for U.S. passport holders — 35 countries, including:

  • Solomon Islands
  • Sri Lanka
  • Madagascar
  • Egypt
  • Ethiopia
  • Rwanda
  • Sierra Leone
  • Zimbabwe

You will also find listed countries with visa requirements for U.S. citizens.

Which countries are U.S. passport holders not allowed to enter?

As of this video, U.S. passport holders are not allowed to enter North Korea — that’s the only one for now.

The Least Corrupt Countries

This research is taken from VisionOfHumanity.org.

On this site, you can find interactive maps with the overall Global Peace Index (GPI) score of the world.

Each country is color-coded:

  • White (no data)
  • Dark blue (more peaceful)
  • Green (peaceful)
  • Yellow/Orange (less peaceful)
  • Red (least peaceful)

They break it down, showing what it’s weighted by — the lower the score, the more peaceful the country.

You can input countries from the above visa-free list into the Global Peace Index and make both resources work together for you.

Five of the most peaceful countries in 2024 were:

  1. Iceland
  2. Ireland
  3. Portugal
  4. New Zealand
  5. Singapore

So, this write-up, plus the video tutorial, is just the tip of the iceberg.

If you’re like me and love to get the lowdown on where to go and the options available, like the raw data, you’ll check out these websites and bookmark them for your move abroad.

And again, we made it easy for you, by putting these two links and many more just like them, in our downloadable travel guide.

We also get into this with you in our upcoming Move Abroad in 3 Easy Steps virtual workshop.

We’d like to know what country you’re interested in living in, your budget, and that of your dream destination, and pinpoint what sounds like the best fit for you and your family using these resources and more – workshop-style.

There are many factors involved with moving abroad and this is not all-encompassing research, but tools to help you get started on your journey.

A lot of people ask us where they should go, or tell us they have no clue where to begin. So we put together this workshop to help you figure it out in real time in a safe setting.

The Move Abroad in 3 Easy Steps virtual workshop launches in January 2025. We hope to see you there, book your seat before early-bird pricing closes.

Thanks for reading, and blessed travels!
